At Lifetime Vision, under the care of Dr. Viet Tran, we provide comprehensive eye exams for the whole family. We understand that routine eye exams are essential, regardless of age or physical health. During a complete eye exam, Dr. Tran not only determines your prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses but also checks for common eye diseases, assesses how your eyes function together, and evaluates your overall health based on your eye health. Early diagnosis of eye and vision conditions allows us to offer treatment options, and in many cases, prevent or restore vision loss.

Our comprehensive eye exams include a range of tests and procedures to examine your eye health and the quality of your vision. These tests vary from simple ones, like reading an eye chart, to more advanced tests, such as using digital retinal imaging technology to assess retinal health.  In addition to vision testing, our eye exams include an assessment of eye functionality. Dr. Tran administers various tests to evaluate depth perception, color vision, eye muscle capabilities, peripheral vision, and light responsiveness. Several other straightforward evaluations are performed to determine if your eyes are focusing, moving, and working together effectively. These test outcomes enable Dr. Tran to diagnose any underlying conditions that may affect your eyes' ability to focus or function harmoniously.  Depending on your vision test results, Dr. Tran may recommend corrective glasses, contact lenses, or eye exercises.

Regardless of whether you require vision correction, an annual eye exam is recommended by the American Optometric Association (AOA) for everyone. More frequent eye exams may be advised for individuals with conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure, as these conditions can affect vision and eye health.

For those over 60, an annual eye exam is strongly recommended, as the risk of eye disease increases with age. If you're over 40, it's advisable to have your eyes examined every one to two years to check for age-related issues like presbyopia, cataracts, and macular degeneration.

When it comes to children, approximately 5% to 10% of pre-schoolers and 25% of school-aged children have vision problems. The AOA suggests that all children should have their eyes examined at 6 months, at age 3, and before starting school. Children without vision problems or risk factors for eye issues should continue to have yearly eye exams during their school years.

Children with existing vision problems or risk factors should have more frequent eye exams. Common risk factors include:

  • premature birth

  • developmental delays

  • crossed or turned eyes

  • a family history of eye disease

  • a history of eye injury

  • other illnesses or diseases.

Children who wear eyeglasses or contact lenses should have their eyes examined at least every 12 months or according to their optometrist's recommendations.
